Motorists asked to follow signed detours and stay alert when traveling through the area
UPDATE, June 3, 2025: The nighttime ramp closures affecting southbound I-495 at George Washington Memorial Parkway (GWMP) and Georgetown Pike interchanges have been postponed to tonight, Tuesday, June 3 and Tuesday night, June 10. The ramps from southbound I-495 to the GWMP (Exit 43) and Georgetown Pike (Exit 44) are now scheduled to be closed tonight, Tuesday, June 3, from 10 p.m. until 5 a.m. Wednesday morning. The ramps from GWMP to southbound I-495 and from Georgetown Pike to southbound I-495 are now scheduled to be closed Tuesday night, June 10, from 10 p.m. until 5 a.m. Wednesday morning, June 11. The backup date for these closures is Thursday night, June 12.
FAIRFAX, VA - Tonight, Monday night, June 2, the ramps from southbound I-495 to the George Washington Memorial Parkway (GWMP) Exit 43 and Georgetown Pike (Exit 44) are scheduled to be closed from 10 p.m. until 5 a.m. Tuesday morning. During this closure, motorists will be detoured to continue southbound on I-495 to northbound Route 123 Exit 46B, then to the northbound I-495 general purpose lanes to Georgetown Pike and GWMP.

Motorists asked to follow signed detour across American Legion Bridge to loop back into Virginia
FAIRFAX, VA - Beginning on or about tomorrow night, Wednesday, May 28, and continuing on weeknights through Friday, June 20, the ramp from northbound I-495 (Capital Beltway Inner Loop) to George Washington Memorial Parkway (GWMP) (Exit 43) will be closed for paving, curb, and striping work as part of the 495 NEXT project. This ramp closure and detour is scheduled to occur nightly, Mondays through Fridays, from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. the following morning.

Northbound I-495 traffic to shift on or about Friday night, May 2; Southbound I-495 traffic to shift in late May/early June
UPDATE, May 1, 2025: The traffic shift on northbound I-495 in the Tysons-McLean area scheduled for May 2 has been postponed, and is now planned to occur on Friday night, May 9–Saturday morning, May 10.
FAIRFAX, VA - On or about Friday night, May 2, crews plan to begin shifting traffic on I-495 (Capital Beltway) in the Tysons-McLean area onto approximately two miles of newly- constructed lanes on the outer section of the highway. Northbound I-495 lanes are scheduled to be shifted during overnight hours on Friday night, May 2, with Saturday night, May 3 and the following weekend (May 9 and 10) serving as backup dates in case of weather delays. Southbound I-495 lanes are planned to be shifted in late May or early June. These important traffic shifts will enable crews to access the center portion of the Beltway to build the new 495 Express Lanes.
