Work to implement traffic shift to occur Thursday night, April 10 until early morning Friday, April 11

UPDATE (April 10, 2025): The below ramp shift and associated traffic impacts have been postponed. This work will now occur on Wednesday night, April 16, until early morning Thursday, April 17.

FAIRFAX, VA - The collector ramp from northwest George Washington Memorial Parkway (GWMP) to southbound I-495 and Georgetown Pike (Exit 44) is scheduled to be shifted into a new ramp alignment between 9:30 p.m. Thursday, April 10 and 5 a.m. Friday, April 11. The new ramp alignment runs parallel to southbound I-495 between the GWMP and Georgetown Pike and will improve merging for drivers entering and exiting the Beltway in this area. The new configuration will also accommodate the wider Beltway that is needed for the 495 Express Lanes Northern Extension.

Closures and stoppages necessary for overhead sign work

FAIRFAX, VA - There will be overnight triple lane closures on northbound I-495 (Capital Beltway Inner Loop) in two locations on Wednesday night, Nov. 20, and Thursday night, Nov. 21 from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. the following mornings, for crews to work on overhead signs as part of the 495 NEXT project.

Motorists Should Follow Posted Detour to Access I-495 North; Expect Continued Nighttime Ramp Closure and Detour in Weeks Ahead

UPDATE (Nov. 20, 2024): The below ramp closure and detour will also be in place on tonight, Wednesday, Nov. 20 and Thursday, Nov. 21 during overnight hours, from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. the following morning.

FAIRFAX, VA - The on-ramp from the westbound Dulles Toll Road (Route 267) to northbound I-495 (Capital Beltway Inner Loop) is scheduled to be closed during overnight hours tonight, Friday, Nov. 8, Sunday night, Nov. 10, Monday night, Nov. 11, and Tuesday night, Nov. 12, to allow crews to conduct milling and paving work as part of the 495 NEXT project. The ramp will be closed from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. the following morning. Triple lane closures will also be in place on northbound I-495 in the project corridor during the same times for paving work. Drivers are advised that this same ramp closure will occur periodically over the coming weeks for continued construction.
