Weekend Lane Closure on I-495 South Collector-Distributor Road to Georgetown Pike in McLean Beginning Tonight, October 20

Exits to George Washington Memorial Parkway and Georgetown Pike Will Remain Open

FAIRFAX, VA - Starting tonight at 8 p.m., and continuing for approximately 48 hours through the weekend, the right lane of the southbound I-495 collector-distributor road between George Washington Memorial Parkway (exit 43) and Georgetown Pike (exit 44) will be closed so crews can build a temporary ramp as part of the 495 NEXT Project. The left lane of the collector-distributor road, including the entry point (from George Washington Memorial Parkway to the southbound I-495 collector-distributor road), and both exits (exit 43 and 44) will remain open. The closure will be continuous from 8 p.m. Friday, October 20 to 8 p.m. Sunday, October 22. The lane closure primarily will affect motorists traveling on southbound I-495 exiting at Georgetown Pike.

UPDATE: Ramp Closure from Georgetown Pike to I-495 North in McLean Scheduled This Weekend, Sept. 29-Oct. 1

Traffic to follow signed detour

UPDATE (Oct. 2, 2023): The ramp closure from Georgetown Pike (Route 193) to I-495 North in McLean will continue tonight between midnight and 5 a.m. for stormwater drainage work. The detour will be the same as listed below.

FAIRFAX, VA - The ramp from Georgetown Pike (Route 193) to I-495 North in McLean toward the American Legion Bridge is scheduled to close during overnight hours this weekend, Friday, Sept. 29 - Sunday, Oct.. 1. A detour will be in place to I-495 South, where drivers can access I-495 North at the Route 123 interchange. This ramp closure is necessary to accommodate stormwater drainage work as part of the 495 NEXT project.

Governor Youngkin Announces I-495 Express Lanes Northern Extension Construction to Begin

Virginia officials and project partners mark milestone at groundbreaking ceremony; new express lanes extension to bring congestion relief, new transit options, and economic benefits

TYSONS, VA - Governor Glenn Youngkin today announced the start of construction on a two-and-a-half-mile extension of the express lanes on Interstate 495 between the Dulles Corridor and the George Washington Memorial Parkway in Fairfax County. Governor Youngkin was joined by Virginia Secretary of Transportation Shep Miller, state and local officials, and Transurban—Virginia’s project partner and operator of the 495, 95 and 395 Express Lanes—at a groundbreaking ceremony to officially kick off construction on the 495 Express Lanes Northern Extension (495 NEXT) project. The latest extension of Virginia’s 90+-mile express lanes network planned for Northern Virginia, the project will provide new travel options, reduce congestion, support new transit services, and minimize cut-through traffic in residential communities.
