Overnight closure and detour of ramps from southbound and northbound I-495 to GW Parkway planned for night of July 30 to set up work area

Fairfax, VA - On or about Wednesday night, July 30, crews are scheduled to implement temporary traffic changes on the existing ramp from northbound I-495 (Capital Beltway Inner Loop) to southbound George Washington Memorial Parkway (GWMP) Exit 43 to begin ramp extension work, as part of the I-495 Express Lanes Northern Extension (495 NEXT) project. By as early as Thursday morning, July 31, the ramp will be temporarily shifted and narrowed to one lane through the merge point from the Beltway to GWMP. This narrowed-down ramp configuration and merge area is expected to be in place until about mid-September to accommodate ramp construction and keep drivers and workers safe.

Overnight triple lane closures on southbound I-495 needed tonight, Tuesday, July 22, and Wednesday night, July 23

McLean, VA - The last phase of shifting southbound I-495 lanes from Georgetown Pike to between Old Dominion Drive and Lewinsville Road onto newly constructed lanes on the outer section of the Beltway has been rescheduled to occur Wednesday night, July 23. All southbound lanes in this section of the Beltway are planned to be reopened in their new alignment by 6 a.m. Thursday, July 24. Crews will work during overnight hours tonight, Tuesday, July 22, to complete roadway paving that is necessary to implement the traffic shift.

Multi-lane closures and stoppages on Beltway and ramp closures/detours will be in place to implement traffic shift between Georgetown Pike and Lewinsville Road

McLean, VA - This Tuesday night, July 22, crews plan to implement the second of two traffic shifts of all four lanes on southbound I-495 (Beltway Outer Loop) within the I-495 Express Lanes Northern Extension (495 NEXT) project area. This second phase will shift southbound I-495 lanes from Georgetown Pike to midway between Old Dominion Drive and Lewinsville Road onto newly constructed lanes on the outer section of the highway. Work will begin tomorrow (July 22) night, with all southbound lanes in this section of the Beltway reopened in their new alignment by 6 a.m. Wednesday morning, July 23. Wednesday night will serve as backup dates in case of inclement weather or other work delays.
