Southbound I-495/Capital Beltway Outer Loop Traffic Shift in Tysons-McLean Area Scheduled Friday Night, June 27
Multi-lane closures and stoppages on Beltway and ramp closures/detours will be in place to implement shift
MCLEAN, VA - On or about this Friday night, June 27, crews plan to implement the first of two traffic shifts of all four lanes on southbound I-495 (Beltway Outer Loop) within the I-495 Express Lanes Northern Extension (495 NEXT) project area. This first phase will shift southbound I-495 lanes from just north of George Washington Memorial Parkway (GWMP) to just south of Georgetown Pike onto newly constructed lanes on the outer section of the highway. Work will begin Friday night, with all southbound lanes in this section of the Beltway reopened in their new alignment by 10 a.m. Saturday morning, June 28. Saturday and Sunday nights will serve as backup dates in case of inclement weather or other work delays.

Nightly Triple-lane Closures on Capital Beltway in McLean and Ramp From Nb I-495 to George Washington Parkway Scheduled to Close Tonight, June 20, and June 22 Through July 2 as Needed
Motorists traveling on northbound I-495 to GW Parkway are asked to follow signed detour across American Legion Bridge to loop back into Virginia
FAIRFAX, VA - Drivers are advised that there will be nightly triple-lane closures on northbound and southbound I-495 (Capital Beltway) and a closure/detour of the ramp from northbound I-495 (Inner Loop) to George Washington Memorial Parkway (GWMP) (Exit 43) tonight, Friday, June 20 and Sunday night, June 22, through Wednesday night, July 2, as needed. These closures are for paving, curb, striping and road widening work as part of the I-495 Express Lanes Northern Extension (495 NEXT) project.

Nighttime Ramp Closures Affecting Southbound I-495 at George Washington Parkway and Georgetown Pike Interchanges in McLean Scheduled June 2 and 3
Motorists asked to follow signed detours and stay alert when traveling through the area
UPDATE, June 3, 2025: The nighttime ramp closures affecting southbound I-495 at George Washington Memorial Parkway (GWMP) and Georgetown Pike interchanges have been postponed to tonight, Tuesday, June 3 and Tuesday night, June 10. The ramps from southbound I-495 to the GWMP (Exit 43) and Georgetown Pike (Exit 44) are now scheduled to be closed tonight, Tuesday, June 3, from 10 p.m. until 5 a.m. Wednesday morning. The ramps from GWMP to southbound I-495 and from Georgetown Pike to southbound I-495 are now scheduled to be closed Tuesday night, June 10, from 10 p.m. until 5 a.m. Wednesday morning, June 11. The backup date for these closures is Thursday night, June 12.
FAIRFAX, VA - Tonight, Monday night, June 2, the ramps from southbound I-495 to the George Washington Memorial Parkway (GWMP) Exit 43 and Georgetown Pike (Exit 44) are scheduled to be closed from 10 p.m. until 5 a.m. Tuesday morning. During this closure, motorists will be detoured to continue southbound on I-495 to northbound Route 123 Exit 46B, then to the northbound I-495 general purpose lanes to Georgetown Pike and GWMP.
