Weekend-Long Travel Impacts on Northbound I-495 in Virginia Near Tysons on Big Beam Weekend – Jan. 24-27

Drivers urged to stay away during major bridge girder installation over northbound Capital Beltway

FAIRFAX, VA - Travelers are urged to stay away from northbound I-495 (Capital Beltway Inner Loop) near Tysons in Virginia heading toward the American Legion Bridge the weekend of Jan. 24-27, as crews are scheduled to install massive steel girders across the northbound Beltway for a new express lanes ramp that will connect the Dulles Toll Road to northbound I-495. Beginning at 9 p.m. Friday, Jan. 24 until as late as 5 a.m. Monday, Jan. 27, lane reductions and traffic shifts will be in effect on northbound I-495 for approximately three miles between Route 7 (near mile marker 47.4) to north of the Dulles Toll Road/Route 267 (near mile marker 44.6). Multiple ramps at the I-495 and Dulles Corridor interchange will also be closed and detoured all weekend to accommodate the work. Drivers are advised to avoid the area and use alternate routes, as delays and backups are expected to occur.

Overnight Lane Closures and Traffic Stoppages on Georgetown Pike Jan. 21 Through Jan. 23

FAIRFAX, VA - Beginning Tuesday, Jan. 21 and continuing through Thursday, Jan. 23, there will be overnight lane closures and periodic total traffic stoppages in both directions on Georgetown Pike near the I-495 interchange between Balls Hill Road and Linganore Drive. Lane closures will occur between 9:30 p.m. and 5 a.m. the following morning, with periodic traffic stoppages of up to 30 minutes each between midnight and 5 a.m.

BIG BEAM WEEKEND COMING JAN. 24-27 Massive Bridge Girders to be Installed Over I-495/Capital Beltway in Virginia for 495 Express Lanes Northern Extension Project

Weekend-long travel impacts on Beltway near Tysons and at I-495/Dulles Corridor interchange; motorists urged to plan ahead and stay away

FAIRFAX, VA - Crews are preparing to install five lines of massive steel girders extending 295-feet in length across northbound I-495 (Capital Beltway) for a new express lanes ramp that will connect the Dulles Toll Road to northbound I-495. This major bridge girder operation - the Big Beam Weekend - is scheduled to occur Friday night, January 24 through early Monday morning, January 27, and will impact travel significantly on northbound I-495 near Tysons and at the I-495 and Dulles Corridor interchange area. Motorists are urged to STAY AWAY throughout the weekend as northbound I-495 will be reduced from six to two lanes near Tysons, and multiple ramps at the I-495 and Dulles Corridor interchange will be closed and detoured. In the event of inclement weather, the Big Beam Weekend will be rescheduled for the following weekend, Jan. 31 through Feb. 3.
