Hundreds gather in McLean to celebrate opening of 495 Express Lanes Extension Bicycle and Pedestrian Trail

Virginia and Fairfax County officials join project leadership and community groups at opening event

MCLEAN, VA - The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) and Transurban today officially opened the new 495 Express Lanes Extension’s Bicycle and Pedestrian Trail, Northern Virginia’s newest shared-use path, which expands recreational and active transportation options in the McLean region.

MCLEAN, VA - The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) and Transurban, the Commonwealth’s private partner and operator of the 495 Express Lanes, today announced that a new shared-use bicycle and pedestrian trail—one of the final multimodal features of the 495 Express Lanes Northern Extension (495 NEXT) project—is scheduled to open to the public on Saturday, June 27.

Nightly ramp closures at I-495 and George Washington Memorial Parkway, Georgetown Pike and Dulles Toll Road interchanges scheduled for May 12-14

Single lane closure on WB Dulles Toll Road between Route 123 and I-495 also planned

FAIRFAX, VA - Beginning on or about tonight, Tuesday, May 12, through Thursday night, May 14, ramps to and from I-495 (Capital Beltway) at George Washington Memorial Parkway, Georgetown Pike and Dulles Toll Road (Route 267) will be closed and detoured for 495 NEXT crews to perform bridge and paving work. Ramp closures will occur from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. the following morning, weather permitting. Drivers should use caution and follow posted detours.
