Motorists should stay alert and follow posted detours

FAIRFAX - Beginning on or about tonight, Monday, Dec. 1, and continuing nightly through Friday, Dec. 5, ramps to and from I-495 (Capital Beltway) and the George Washington Memorial Parkway (GWMP) in McLean will be closed and detoured for 495 NEXT crews to perform patching work. Ramp closures will begin as early as 10 p.m. each night and will continue until 5 a.m. the following morning.

Closures and detours tonight beginning at 8 p.m.

FAIRFAX, VA - The 495 Express Lanes Extension (the Extension) is scheduled to open tomorrow morning, Sunday, Nov. 23. The two-and-a-half-mile Extension spans from near the Dulles Corridor Interchange to just before the American Legion Bridge, and includes new connecting ramps.

Drivers should expect new travel pattern and use extra caution

UPDATE, November 21, 2025: The 495 Express Lanes Extension opening has been rescheduled for Sunday morning, Nov. 23, due to forecasted rain tonight. All closures will be implemented at the same times as listed below beginning at 8 p.m., Saturday night, Nov. 22, into Sunday morning, Nov. 23.

FAIRFAX, VA - The 495 Express Lanes Extension (the Extension) remains on schedule to open this Saturday, Nov. 22, weather permitting. The two-and-a-half-mile extension of new 495 Express Lanes spanning from near the Dulles Corridor Interchange to just before the American Legion Bridge and new connecting ramps are scheduled to be fully open and operational by mid-morning Saturday.
