Motorists should follow detour; Expect delays on I-495 North and South
Update: Wednesday, March 27, 2024, 1 p.m. Based on weather conditions, the bridge girder work and closures on I-495 in Virginia near McLean are cancelled for tonight, March 27. Work and closures remain scheduled for tomorrow night, March 28.
FAIRFAX, VA - On or about this Wednesday night, March 27, and Thursday night, March 28, three lanes of northbound and southbound I-495 (Capital Beltway) will be closed for crews to set steel girders at the Georgetown Pike and Live Oak Drive bridges in McLean, weather permitting. Intermittent traffic stoppages of up to 30 minutes each also will occur. The work is part of the 495 Express Lanes Northern Extension (495 NEXT) project.

Stoppages to occur between midnight and 5 a.m. for signal work
FAIRFAX, VA - Periodic overnight traffic stoppages are scheduled to occur at the intersection of Balls Hill Road and Georgetown Pike in McLean on Feb. 27 and Feb. 28. These stoppages, which may be up to 30 minutes each, will occur between the hours of 11:59 p.m. and 5 a.m. the following morning, and are necessary for crews to span wires for temporary signals as part of the 495 NEXT project.

Traffic to be detoured to Georgetown Pike Interchange to access Parkway
FAIRFAX, VA - During overnight hours tonight, Feb. 26, through Friday, March 1, the ramp from I-495 South to George Washington Memorial Parkway (Exit 43) will be closed for drainage work as part of the 495 NEXT project. This ramp closure and detour will be in effect between 10 p.m. and 4 a.m. each night.
